Coming in Haute From South Carolina
You can take the girl out of New York but...well you know the rest.
Welcome to The Beau Yorker
Happy Giving Tuesday everyone!
First of all, that is not my porch. It is a porch, located not far too from me, at a wonderful hotel called Anchorage 1770 which is the first place my partner and I stayed before making the absolutely insane but also amazing decision to buy a house sight unseen in Beaufort, SC.
As some of you know, and for anyone who doesn't, my partner, pugs, and I bought a house in the beautiful South Carolina Lowcountry during the pandemic. What was supposed to be a second home has recently become permanent, and while I will always be a ride-or-die New Yorker, Beaufort, at least for now, is the place we’re calling home.
This is our house and before you ask, yes, she’s pink!
This brings me to the name of this little gem of a newsletter that you’re reading. Not to be confused with Beaufort, NC (pronounced Bow-Fort), Beaufort, SC (pronounced like how you would say the first part of the word beautiful (Beau-Fert) is a charming coastal town tucked between Charleston and Savannah. It’s so quaint and lovely, and if you want to read a little bit about it you can check out this story that I wrote for Thrillist last year.
Proximity wise, we have easy access to both SVH and CHS, both of which I would argue are two of the most exciting food cities in the country right now. BTW if you like food and solid storytelling, you should also check out Hannah Raskin whose The Food Section newsletter will tell you just about everything you need to know about about the amazing food culture down here.
So that’s my sweet southern jam, I hope you’re still with me and will find this to be a useful, and maybe even mildly entertaining resource, with a little New York City sentiment and Jewish humor mixed in for good measure. Welcome one, welcome all to The Beau Yorker.
So here’s what’s up..
If you are reading this right now, and I’m glad you are, I want to thank you. These past few years have been a wild ride for all of us and I’m launching this newsletter as means of staying better connected with my amazing community. To keep you updated on what I’m working on, each newsletter will include all of the upcoming stories that I have on tap, as well as links to recently published work, upcoming travel plans and what life is like down here in the ol’ south.
As always, feel free to drop me a line with any hot tips, leads, sources or to just say hi and send cute pics of your dog, baby etc! I work with so many wonderful, talented and amazing people and one of my goals for this newsletter is to streamline my workflow while staying engaged. I’m hoping this will be just as good of a resource for you, so please keep in touch y’all! And yeah, I can technically say y’all now :)
Stay Tuned For Monthly Dispatches

Here’s what I’m working on right now:
My inbox is ALWAYS open to pitches and ideas, especially when it comes to new and exciting hotel openings, cruise news, places to go, things to see, foods to eat, or adventures to be had. However, I just want to add a caveat and say this: Pitches that have a news hook/relevance/timeliness are always wayyyy more likely to get a heck yeah let’s do it out of me. If it’s not new(s), tell me WHY it’s a relevant story to tell right now!
In the next newsletter I’ll outline what I have on tap coverage-wise, but here’s a sneak peek in the meantime:
Feature: Where To Stay, Eat And Play in New Orleans (assigned)
Gift Guides —The Best Gifts For Cold Weather Cruises (pitch me!)
Gift Guides —The Best Gifts For Japanophiles (pitch me!)
Roundup: The 10 Best Hotels In Charleston (filed)

If you have any sources/leads that are a fit for any of the above please email me! Stories marked “assigned” are the ones that I’m actively working on and have a more immediate deadline for. Stories marked “in the queue” are in progress. Stories marked “filed” have been submitted to my editor and will be published soon so stay tuned! Also, I do want to note that this is my first foray into newsletters so the format of this section might change/evolve as time goes on so bear with me.
Speaking of Bear…
This newsletter is dedicated to my angel Bear, who left this earth too soon but filled my heart with so much love every day.

The Pie Queen's Perfect Pimento Cheese Pie
I’m going to end every Beau Yorker newsletter with something, someone or someplace Southern. Since we just celebrated Thanksgiving, I thought it would be fun to share this absolutely gooey and oh-so delicious Pimento Cheese Pie recipe courtesy of Brie Golliher a.k.a The Pie Queen of Bowling Green. I had a chance to interview Brie and write about this delightful dish for Southern Living recently, and it got me so excited to pen more food stories like this one. You can read the recipe and find the link to the story HERE!

Welcome to SC! I look forward to following your adventures in the lowcountry, although no longer live there. BTW Beaufort NC is pronounced BOW fort whereas Beaufort SC is pronounced BEW-fert. You picked one amazing place to live.
Very exciting, Michelle! Congrats on this new venture. :-)
